What Abstap is

ABS — the Automated Ball-Strike challenge system — is live across the 2026 MLB regular season. Abstap logs every challenge with its full game context: inning, count, score, baserunners, pitch location, and the umpire behind the plate. All of it comes from the public MLB Stats API, the same feed that powers official box scores, synced every morning at roughly 6 AM ET. Nothing is hand-entered or estimated.

Citing Abstap

Journalists, broadcasters, and researchers are welcome to cite Abstap. Two requests:

  • Attribute figures to Abstap (abstap.com) and link to the specific page you pulled them from.
  • When you reference a ranking, name the metric: the Robbery Score is leverage index × call magnitude. The methodology page spells out exactly how every number is computed, and where the method has limits.

Where the stories are

Every page below updates daily. Each is a stable, linkable source for a different angle.

About Abstap (copy-paste):

Abstap tracks every Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) challenge in Major League Baseball — every overturned call and every umpire’s worst zone — sourced daily from the public MLB Stats API. It ranks the most consequential missed calls by Robbery Score: leverage index × the inches a pitch missed the rulebook strike zone. Abstap is an independent project and is not affiliated with Major League Baseball.
